Russian Influence in the Media: How it Works

Some of you may be familiar with Rosie Gray, a reporter for Buzzfeed.  Indeed, I have used one of her articles as a source in previous articles, where she essentially tells us something that SHOULD already be painfully obvious.

For those of us familiar with Active Measures, the message couldn't be more obvious.

Referring to the aforementioned article, you have Oliver Stone, who has consistently regurgitated Kremlin talking points for decades, perhaps coincidently (if you believe that), including:

• JFK conspiracy theories
• Anti-Vietnam War narratives
• Edward Snowden apologism
• Soviet/Russian apologism...ie. support for Soviet/Russian satellites/puppets/partners such as Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Néstor Kirchner, Raúl Castro, Hugo Chávez, Lula Da Silva, Fernando Lugo, and Soviet/Cuban/Eastern-Bloc backed leftist guerrillas in El Salvador
• Wall Street greed (Occupy Wall Street, anyone?)

He has even taken a pro-Russian stance with regard to Russia's annexation of Crimea.  How interesting...Soviet apologist to pro-Russian.  Stone's views seem to correspond with and mirror Russia's foreign policy interests.  How odd, since Stone has always been a peddler of ideology.

This is one of the reasons I try to focus on the concept that ideology has little to do with it, as I've mentioned before, because it fools people into believing that Russia only backs individuals and organizations that reflect its own values and interests, regardless of the fact that Russia presently LOOKS PRETTY DAMN FASCIST.

I'm not going to even bother talking about Jesse Ventura.  He's written or co-written numerous books on conspiracy theories, including JFK conspiracy theories.  He's no different than Stone.

The point is, don't get caught up with ideology.  Russian Active Measures nowadays, particularly with the integration of Vladislav Surkov's "nonlinear warfare", means Russia is deeply influencing both sides.  Ideology ITSELF is the weapon and viewing the world ideologically causes us to do really, REALLY stupid things.

Rosie Gray, herself, is a marvelous case study in "Surkovism", both personally and as a part of a larger mechanism that appears to seize specific media narratives.

Rosie, who adorns her Twitter page with an image of Ron Paul (remember him?), seems to push an agenda with a narrative arc that is all too familiar.

On the one hand, Rosie clearly endorses the Front National, France's far-right Nationalist party, historically tied most closely to the Pieds Noirs (think Claude Rains in Casablanca), while on the other hand she publishes an article critical of RT (Russia Today).  Of course, as I have definitely taken note of, there's a strange pattern among certain mainstream media venues that seem to work almost in unison, while serving the interests of Russian foreign policy.  My intention is to detail all of this, ad nauseum, so that it is as clear to everyone else as it is to me.

I'm not certain just how knowledgeable western intelligence agencies are, with regard to Russia's involvement in Paneurasian Nationalist groups in Europe.  I can only share my own knowledge on the topic and the knowledge of a few others, which is significant.

But, again, and as I will continue to detail in future articles, Russia is influencing BOTH SIDES, as they did in the Greek elections, supporting both Golden Dawn and Syriza.  The two actually agreed to attack and marginalize the political centrists in Greece, as explained by another media venue that, ahem, we will discuss in later articles.  THIS IS SO IMPORTANT because it explains, FUNDAMENTALLY, the impact of Russia's Active Measures here in the United States, as well.
